HEALTH AND SAFETY COORDINATOR

Job description

 

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

SAFETY:

  • Initiate, promote, implement and maintain health and safety projects and initiatives
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings
  • Update, maintain and present safety orientations and training for all new and existing employees
  • Update the Health & Safety Manual, Emergency Preparedness Plan as required
  • Provide regular and accurate statistical reports on all medical aid, incidents and injuries, lost time injuries, health-related absenteeism and disability information
  • Communicate to management as required
  • Monitor and recommend corrective action
  • Maintain health and safety bulletin boards
  • Maintain records of all health and safety related training in individual employee files and company logs
  • Complete and Oversee monthly Inspections
  • Advise and guide Safety Committee
  • Audit Safety Program
  • Ensure compliance meets all legislative requirements through OSHA, including audiometric, air quality, forklift, HCS, Standard First Aid, Safety Committee, etc.
  • Conduct effective hazard analysis for all work centers
  • Ensure safe work procedures are current and complete for all work centers
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and employees
  • Case manager administrator for occupational injury and illness
  • Manage return to work programs proactively
  • Actively participates in the implementation and daily routines of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
  • Actively participates and cooperates with internal/external ISO Audits

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Safety, Environmental or Health Management & Compliance, with at least 2 years’ experience managing a safety program in a manufacturing environment
  • Possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
  • Possess current or to complete Standard First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Manufacturing and/or warehouse experience
  • 3-5 years implementing and promoting safe work practices and policies
  • Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis are preferred
  • Understanding of current legislation, OSHA, Codes of Practice, Bulletins and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common applications
  • Must be able to present materials and facilitate training
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Salary: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
